Scammers reaping off Mobile Money Users in Cameroon.

Mobile Money in Cameroon has finally become a full grown Banking house beside roads and under umbrellas nationwide. The commonly called MoMo operators in Cameroon are MTN and Orange telephone networks respectively.

Millions of people chose this simple-to-bank and withdraw because it is quit simple and easy on the go. This has also make banking also difficult for major financial institutions in the country. Due to this rampant use of MoMo in Cameroon, Scammer have stepped in.

Good morning sir, I am a mobile money service agent. Do you use mobile money? Obviously yes. How are the services? You have been loyal to our services and we wish to inform you that we are carrying out PIN (Personal Information Number) upgrade from 5 to 6 figures.

They already have your phone number and all they need is only the 5 figures PIN to hack your account but claiming that you should give the first figures and one so that they can make it 6. If you do so, they will remove to the least CFA you have. Unfortunately, Cameroon is having a very poor cyber security if not, these hackers would have been tracked down.

They use normal MTN numbers and MTN doesn't use normal numbers but 8787 to call her clients. The best respond to them is to tell them that you live beside an MTN office, and that you will pass by for verification

Where do they get your number?

The social media has come with business and phone calls are doing great with business. They are fun of getting numbers by joining WhatsApp groups where anybody's number can be easily gotten. A complain from one Whatsapp group "Five group members on the 24th of July complaining the same short story above". One talked of how a friend's 5 millions went just like that.
